Step-by-step guide

Getting started with ProofSnap

To get started with ProofSnap in 2026, install the extension from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons, pin its icon, click it to open the side panel, sign up with an email address and a password, accept the privacy notice, then start the 7-day trial (card required) or buy a SnapPack. Setup takes about five minutes.

Every screen below is redrawn from the extension's own interface, so you know what to expect at each of the ten steps, plus the password reset if you ever need it.

7 days, card required

Before you start

  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a computer.
  • An email address you can read and a password with at least 7 characters, one of them a special character.
  • A payment card for the 7-day trial, or for a SnapPack if you prefer no subscription.

Step 1

Install ProofSnap from the store

ProofSnap is an extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on a computer, and you install it like any other Chrome extension. Open its page in the Chrome Web Store or in Microsoft Edge Add-ons and add it to your browser. The browser asks you to confirm: click Add extension.

Two limits come from Chrome itself, not from ProofSnap. Google's Chrome Web Store Help states: “You can't add extensions when you browse in Incognito mode or as a guest.” On a computer managed by your work or school, “your organization might block some extensions,” so ask your IT team to allow ProofSnap first.

  1. 1Add to Chrome. The button on the Chrome Web Store page.
  2. 2Get. The same button in Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
The two store listings, redrawn in each store's own neutral style and simplified: the real pages also show screenshots, ratings and the description.

Step 2

Pin the ProofSnap icon

New extensions hide in the browser's Extensions menu. Pin ProofSnap once so its icon stays in the toolbar.

  1. 1Extensions. The puzzle piece icon to the right of the address bar.
  2. 2Pin. Click the pin next to ProofSnap - Digital Evidence Capture. In Edge, the same menu has an eye icon, Show in toolbar.
  3. 3ProofSnap icon. Now always visible. Hover over it and the tooltip reads Capture Page Snapshot.
Chrome's own Extensions menu, redrawn in Chrome's colors and simplified. It looks slightly different in other Chrome versions and in Edge.

Step 3

Open the side panel

Click the ProofSnap icon. ProofSnap opens in the Chrome side panel on the right, next to the page you are looking at. The first time, it shows the sign-in screen.

  1. 1ProofSnap icon. One click opens the side panel.
  2. 2Side panel. ProofSnap works here. The page on the left is whatever you have open.
  3. 3Language. The interface language, already on the sign-in screen. See the next step.
The side panel opens next to the page you are on. Built from the extension's own interface.

Step 4

Pick your language

ProofSnap is available in 29 languages, each listed under its own name. Pick yours before you sign up: ProofSnap reloads to apply it, and Arabic and Hebrew switch the panel to a right-to-left layout. Your choice is saved in the browser and copied to your account each time you sign in.

  1. 1Language button. Top right of the panel, with a globe icon and the current language.
  2. 2Language list. The current language is highlighted with a check mark. The language of the evidence PDF is a separate choice you make for each capture.
The list continues down to all 29 languages.

Step 5

Create your account

On the sign-in screen, click Sign up. Your account is an email address and a password, nothing else. As soon as you click Create Account, you are signed in.

  1. 1Individual or Company. Individual is for one person. Company creates a team account with you as its admin; you then choose the number of licenses on the next screen.
  2. 2Email. Your sign-in name, and the address for password reset links.
  3. 3Password. At least 7 characters, including at least one special character such as ! or #. The eye icon shows what you typed.
  4. 4Create Account. Creates the account and signs you in.
  5. 5Company Name. Only on the Company tab. If a company of that name already has an account, ProofSnap tells you so: create an individual account instead and ask that company's admin to add you.
Top: an individual account. Bottom: the Company tab adds one field. The email address is an example.

Step 6

Accept the privacy notice and terms

Before the first capture, ProofSnap shows what data it processes and a summary of the license terms. You see this once per account in each browser.

  1. 1Privacy & Data Collection Notice. What ProofSnap collects and processes, how your data is used and which third-party services are involved.
  2. 2Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. The full texts, each in a new tab.
  3. 3Accept & Continue. Takes you to the plans.
  4. 4Decline. ProofSnap explains that the account stays inactive until you accept.
Shortened in the middle: the full screen also lists how your data is used, the third-party services and a summary of the license terms.

Step 7

Start the 7-day trial of a plan, or buy a SnapPack

Every subscription starts with a 7-day trial. You enter your card when you start it, and Stripe charges it only when the trial ends. During the trial you get your plan's full monthly capture allowance. The trial is for new subscribers: it is not offered while you have an active subscription or if you started a trial within the last six months. Prefer no subscription? Buy a SnapPack instead. A separate guide compares the plans.

  1. 1Monthly or Annually. The screen opens on the annual prices, which cost less than paying monthly.
  2. 2Price. Per year in this view, in US dollars.
  3. 3Buy now. Starts the 7-day trial of that plan. Enterprise includes one EU qualified timestamp during the trial, then 10 a month.
  4. 4SnapPack. 10 captures for $4.99 that never expire, no subscription. The eIDAS and Video SnapPacks follow below it.
  5. 5Back to Login. Signs you out and returns to the sign-in screen.
The Plans screen opens on the annual prices. The eIDAS and Video SnapPacks follow under the SnapPack. Built from the extension's own interface.

Step 8

Pay in the new tab, then sign in again

The secure Stripe payment page opens in a new browser tab, in your ProofSnap language where Stripe supports it. Enter your card details there. Meanwhile the side panel counts down and then signs you out, so your new plan loads when you sign in again.

  1. 1New tab. The payment page is in the other tab. Finish the payment there.
  2. 2Countdown. After 15 seconds the panel returns to the sign-in screen.
  3. 3Stay on this page. Stops the countdown. The panel then switches to ProofSnap on its own once your payment is confirmed.
  4. 4Sign In. With the same email and password. Your plan is now active.
Top: the panel while you pay in the other tab. Bottom: signing in again. The email address is an example.

Step 9

Check your account and the trial countdown

After you sign in, you land on the main screen. The User Account Info card at the top shows what you have.

  1. 1Trial countdown. A quiet gray line showing the days left. It disappears when the trial turns into a paid subscription.
  2. 2Plan. Your plan and whether it is billed monthly or annually.
  3. 3Available captures. What is left this month. File certifications are counted on the next line.
The account card during the trial. Plan, dates and numbers are examples.

Step 10

Make your first capture

You are ready. Open the page you want to preserve, then click Capture page snapshot. ProofSnap captures the page and builds a sealed evidence package that you download as a ZIP, protected by an RSA-signed manifest of SHA-256 hashes. The next guide walks through every option: How to capture a web page.

  1. 1Capture page snapshot. One click captures the page shown in the left part of the window. Everything below it is optional.
Ready to capture: the main screen of the side panel. Plan and numbers are examples.

If you need it

Reset a forgotten password

Forgot your password? Request a reset link right in the side panel. If the email cannot be sent from there, ProofSnap opens the reset page on getproofsnap.com instead.

  1. 1Forgot Password? On the sign-in screen. Try web reset below it opens the reset page on getproofsnap.com directly.
  2. 2Email. The address you signed up with.
  3. 3Send reset password email. Sends you a link to set a new password.
  4. 4Confirmation. Check your inbox and the spam folder. The link expires after 1 hour.
Top: the link on the sign-in screen. Bottom: the reset form after sending. The email address is an example.
