From install to court: the usual order in 5 steps
The ProofSnap guides follow the life of one capture, from installing the extension to handing the evidence over. Follow these five steps in order the first time, then come back to the single guide you need.
Install and sign in. Add ProofSnap to Chrome or Edge, create an account and start the 7-day trial, which requires a credit card. Getting started with ProofSnap shows every screen.
Match the plan to the case. Forensic mode, EU qualified (eIDAS) timestamps and whitelabel branding depend on the plan, so compare the ProofSnap plans before an important capture.
Capture. A web page, a chat, a video of up to 75 minutes or a file on your computer: each has its own guide in the capture section above.
Read the package. The evidence.pdf in every ProofSnap evidence package can be produced in any of 29 languages. How to read an evidence package explains each file.
Verify and hand it over. Anyone can verify a ProofSnap evidence package before it goes to a lawyer, an insurer or a court.
Questions about the ProofSnap guides
How do I start using ProofSnap?
ProofSnap runs in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on a computer. Install it from the Chrome Web Store or the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store, pin the icon, open the side panel and create an account. Then start the 7-day trial, which requires a credit card, or buy a SnapPack, and make your first capture. The getting-started guide shows each screen in order.
How do I take a full-page screenshot in Chrome that can serve as evidence?
Open the page and click Capture page snapshot in the ProofSnap side panel. ProofSnap scrolls the whole page, stitches one full-page screenshot and seals it in a signed evidence package, as the guide on how to capture a web page shows.
Can someone check a ProofSnap package without installing ProofSnap?
Yes. The Trust Verifier on getproofsnap.com checks a package with no account, and the scripts inside every ZIP run on a Mac, Linux or Windows computer with OpenSSL installed, without any ProofSnap software, as the guide on how to verify an evidence package shows.
Can ProofSnap evidence be used in a US federal court?
ProofSnap can add a US court declaration template (FRE 902) with the capture facts filled in. A qualified person completes and signs the certification, and your attorney serves it with the required notice.
Which ProofSnap plan includes forensic mode, eIDAS timestamps or whitelabel branding?
Forensic mode comes with Professional, Enterprise and Company. EU qualified (eIDAS) timestamps come with Enterprise and Company or with eIDAS SnapPack credits. Whitelabel branding comes with Enterprise, Company, every eIDAS SnapPack and every Video SnapPack. The plan guide sets every plan and SnapPack side by side.
How much does ProofSnap cost?
Monthly subscriptions cost $8.99 for Essential, $16.99 for Professional and $28.99 for Enterprise. Company costs $18.99 per license per month, with at least two licenses. Without a subscription, a SnapPack costs $4.99 and an eIDAS SnapPack $6.99. The plan guide compares every option.
Does certifying a file upload it to ProofSnap?
No. ProofSnap computes the SHA-256 hash of each file in your browser and sends only those hashes over the network to obtain the timestamps, so the file itself stays on your computer. The file certification guide shows how to check the original file against the certificate later.
What is inside a ProofSnap evidence package?
A ZIP with the full-page screenshot, the page's HTML as your browser rendered it, metadata.json, evidence.pdf, the chain of custody, the forensic log, a signed manifest and the verification scripts. The guide to reading an evidence package explains what each file is for.
