Step-by-step guide
How to record video evidence with sound, up to 75 minutes
To record long web video as evidence in 2026, buy a ProofSnap Video SnapPack, switch on 75 min + audio in the side panel, share the tab with its sound, then click Stop & capture evidence. ProofSnap packages the recording with a full capture of the page, an RSA-4096-signed manifest of SHA-256 hashes, and timestamps.
The guide shows every screen of the side panel, from purchase to download. The Bitcoin timestamp (OpenTimestamps) comes with every video credit; the EU qualified timestamp is added when you switch it on in step 4.

Before you start
- ProofSnap is installed in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and you are signed in.
- You have enough free disk space for the download. ProofSnap sets the video bitrate so that a full 75-minute recording comes to about 450 MB, so expect a ZIP of roughly that size.
- You know how to do a basic web capture. If not, start with How to capture a web page.
Step 1
Buy a Video SnapPack
Long recordings with sound run on Video SnapPack credits. One credit is one recording of up to 75 minutes with sound. You buy them right in the side panel.
- 1Buy video captures from $24.99. This row sits in the User Account Info card under Top up credits and opens the purchase dialog.
- 2What a credit includes. Each video credit comes with one EU qualified timestamp credit (eIDAS), one file certification and one regular capture, plus whitelabel branding for your evidence PDFs. Video, eIDAS and file certification credits are valid for 12 months.
- 3Pick a pack. Choose 1, 3 or 10 videos: $24.99, $59.99 ($19.99 a video) or $169.99 ($16.99 a video). Clicking a pack opens the secure Stripe checkout in a new tab. After payment the credits appear in the account card within a few moments.
User Account InfoIncludes whitelabel branding for evidence PDFs (custom logo + letterhead).
Step 2
Open the page and check your credits
Open the page you want to record (the video, live stream, call recording or feed) in a normal tab and make it the active tab. When you click Start recording, this tab becomes the capture target, even if you switch tabs later.
- 1The page. Sign in if needed and open the right video. Pause it at the start or at the moment that matters.
- 2Available video captures. Your remaining video credits and their expiration date. The bundled eIDAS credits show in the row below.

Step 3
Switch on Record capture video and 75 min + audio
Under the capture button, switch on Record capture video, then the 75 min + audio switch right below it. Sound is recorded only with this second switch on.
- 1Record capture video. With video credits the gray note reads (up to 75 min).
- 275 min + audio. Off by default, so a short recording never uses a credit by accident. The note shows how many credits are left. The credit is used only when the capture succeeds.
- 3Manual or Session. Auto disappears, because it records for only about a minute, and Manual is selected for you. Manual: one tab; you play the video, then stop. Session: you browse several tabs while recording, and every http(s) tab you open gets its own screenshot, HTML, metadata and evidence document. Under Manual, a bold note reminds you to switch on Also share tab audio later.
- 4Start recording. The capture button now reads Start recording.
Manual or Session: which mode to pick
| Feature | Manual | Session |
|---|---|---|
| Tabs | One tab | Every http(s) tab you visit in the same window |
| Share in Chrome | Chrome Tab | Entire Screen |
| Sound | Tab audio, with Also share tab audio on | Depends on the operating system and Chrome version |
| Page evidence | One full capture of the tab at Stop | A capture with its own evidence.pdf for every tab |
| MP4 copy | If the WebM is up to 250 MB | If the WebM is up to 100 MB and you visited at most ten tabs |
| Best for | A YouTube or TikTok video, a live stream, a call recording | A walk-through across several pages |

Step 4
Reload, eIDAS and a final check
Two more settings before you start. Case details, court forms and the evidence language work the same as in any other capture (see the web capture guide).
- 1Reload page before capture. On by default. Switch it off when you have set up the page, for example by pausing a video at the right second or choosing a filter, so the reload does not lose that state.
- 2Include EU Qualified Timestamp (eIDAS). Your pack includes one qualified timestamp per video. Switch it on to add it to the signed manifest, which lists the SHA-256 hash of the recording and of every other file. The timestamp comes from Disig a.s., a Qualified Trust Service Provider on the EU Trusted List. It marks the moment the package is sealed after you click Stop, and under the eIDAS Regulation that date and time are presumed accurate and the timestamped manifest is presumed intact (Article 41(2)).
- 3Will use. Under the button, ProofSnap lists the credits this click will spend: 1 video credit, and 1 eIDAS credit when the timestamp is on.

Step 5
Click Start recording and choose what to share
Click Start recording. The browser asks what to share. This dialog belongs to the browser, not to ProofSnap, and nothing is recorded until you confirm it.
- 1Tab, window or screen. Manual: pick Chrome Tab, as shown in the picture. Session: pick Entire Screen, so the recording follows you from tab to tab.
- 2The page to record. Manual: select the tab with your video. Session: select your screen.
- 3Sound. Manual: switch on Also share tab audio. Without it the video is silent, and the credit is still used. Session: whether Chrome offers a sound switch for Entire Screen depends on the operating system and the Chrome version, so when sound matters, use Manual.
- 4Share. Recording starts and the timer begins.

Step 6
Record, then stop
While you record, the capture button turns red and shows the elapsed time, up to 75:00. The browser also shows its own bar indicating that the tab is being shared. In both modes you stop the same way: click Stop & capture evidence, or Stop sharing in the browser's bar. At 75 minutes, ProofSnap stops and captures automatically. What you do in between depends on the mode you picked in step 3.
A · Manual
One tab: a video on one page
- 1Play the video. Play, pause and skip in the tab you shared, for as long as you need. ProofSnap captures the tab that was active when you clicked Start recording, even if you look at other tabs in the meantime. Do not close that tab.
- 2Stop. Click Stop & capture evidence when you have everything you need. ProofSnap then captures that one tab, and the recording keeps running through the capture.
B · Session
Several tabs: browsing across pages
- 1Browse. Open the pages you need in the same browser window. The tab you started on is the primary tab; every http(s) tab you open or switch to is added to the session. Tabs in other windows and incognito tabs are not tracked.
- 2Counter. The line under the button counts the visited tabs. Keep them open until the capture is finished.
- 3More than ten tabs. A notice estimates how long the capture will take after you click Stop: about 15 to 30 seconds per tab.
- 4Stop. After you click Stop, ProofSnap visits every tab automatically and captures it in its current state: screenshot, HTML, metadata and its own evidence document. Do not touch the browser until it is done.
Step 7
Wait for the capture to finish
After you stop, ProofSnap captures the page just as in a normal web capture: screenshot, HTML, text, metadata, the evidence document, the signed manifest and the timestamps. The video file goes into the same package, and its SHA-256 hash into the signed manifest.
- 1Capturing... Leave the browser alone until the button is blue again. In Session mode ProofSnap cycles through your tabs automatically, one after another; this is expected.
Step 8
Download the package with the video
When the capture is done, a table of files and a Download zip file button appear. The package exists only in your browser and is not stored on ProofSnap servers: download it before you close the side panel, because closing it deletes the package for good. The ZIP file has a name like proofsnap_20261014_153012.zip. The recording is capture_video.webm in both modes, and it stays the original. ProofSnap also adds capture_video.mp4, a copy that plays in QuickTime and on phones, when the WebM is 250 MB or smaller. In Session mode the limit is 100 MB and at most ten tabs. The package looks different in the two modes.
A · Manual
A package for one tab
- 1File table. One flat list, like a normal web capture, with the recording as an extra row. The blue icon downloads a single file.
- 2Download now. Reminds you that the package lives only in this side panel.
- 3Download zip file. Saves the whole package: the page captured at Stop, the recording, the signed manifest and the timestamps.

B · Session
A package with a folder per tab
- 1Primary tab. The tab you started on. Its files sit at the top level of the ZIP. Its
evidence.pdfalso gives the session overview: every visited tab, the timeline and a section per tab. - 2One section per visited tab. Each additional tab has its own screenshot, HTML, text, metadata, chain of custody and its own
evidence.pdf, in a folder named by tab number and domain, such astabs/tab_2_news_example_com/. - 3Session-wide files. One signed manifest covering every file of every tab, one set of timestamps, and the single recording of the whole session.
- 4Download zip file. Saves everything as one ZIP. Hand over the whole ZIP, not individual tab folders: the signed and timestamped manifest lists the hash of every file in the package, so a single tab folder cannot be checked against it on its own. Then store a copy in a safe place, such as your cloud storage or an external drive.

If something goes wrong
The recorded tab was closed
If the tab you were recording is closed before the capture finishes, the recording stops and a red message explains what happened. ProofSnap keeps what was recorded up to that point and lists it in the file table as Recording (not in sealed package).
Not sealed. That file is not covered by the manifest, the signature or the timestamps. Download it if you need it, then reopen the page and start a new recording to use as evidence.

Common questions
capture_video.webm, so a changed video no longer matches its hash. The stamp dates the moment the package is sealed after you click Stop.capture_video.webm. ProofSnap re-encodes an MP4 copy for QuickTime and phones only when the WebM is up to 250 MB, or up to 100 MB with at most ten tabs in Session mode, because re-encoding a larger file inside the browser needs too much memory. The WebM opens in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and VLC.verification/verify.sh or verify.ps1, which recompute every SHA-256 hash, including the video's, and check the manifest signature and the qualified timestamp with OpenSSL; the Bitcoin timestamp is checked with the OpenTimestamps client. None of this contacts ProofSnap. See how to verify an evidence package and how to read an evidence package.Record your first long video
