For solo lawyers · in-house counsel · investigative journalists on deadline
Updated 8 May 2026 · Verified for FRE 902(13)/(14), eIDAS Art. 41, EU AI Act Art. 50
Three deadlines. One forensic ZIP. $24.99.
Lock any TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, or Reels video as court-admissible evidence in 60 seconds — hash-stamped, blockchain-anchored, eIDAS-qualified. $24.99 per video — less than a single paralegal hour.
One-time payment · Credits valid 12 months · Card required · Edge add-on · Sample ZIP
How do I preserve a TikTok, YouTube, Twitch or Reels video as court-admissible evidence?
To preserve a public video as court-admissible evidence, capture the original URL with a forensic tool that produces (1) a SHA-256 hash of every captured file, (2) a blockchain timestamp, (3) an eIDAS qualified electronic timestamp from a Qualified Trust Service Provider on the EU Trusted List, and (4) a signed chain of custody log. Plain phone screen recordings rarely satisfy FRE 902(13) or FRE 902(14) because they lack the URL, hash, and qualified timestamp metadata that judges expect.
ProofSnap Video SnapPack is a Chrome / Edge extension that records up to 30 minutes of TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube, Twitch VODs, Kick streams, or Facebook video with tab audio, and packages the result into a 14-file forensic ZIP including video.mp4, manifest.json.ots (OpenTimestamps Bitcoin anchor), manifest.json.tsr (eIDAS qualified timestamp from Disig a.s., a Slovak QTSP on the EU Trusted List), and provenance_certificate.pdf (anti-deepfake, EU AI Act Art. 50 aligned). Pricing starts at $24.99 per video as a one-time purchase — no subscription, credits valid 12 months, card required at checkout.
Built for three deadlines: defamation / harassment trial prep (motion in limine), in-house counsel responding to a preservation letter (Social Media MDL 3047 has 2,465 actions pending as of April 2026), and investigative journalists racing a Twitch VOD 7–14 day purge window.
SHA-256 hash · OpenTimestamps blockchain anchor · Disig EU qualified electronic timestamp (RFC 3161) · ISO/IEC 27037:2012 chain of custody
Three deadlines ProofSnap was built for
If you are not on one of these clocks, ProofSnap is overkill. If you are, $24.99 per video is less than a single paralegal billable hour and faster than any forensic vendor.
Defamation or harassment trial prep
Deadline: opposing counsel will challenge every screenshot. Preserve evidence with forensic authentication before filing — or have it excluded at the motion in limine.
Yakoob v Bennett (UK 2025) and Mizkif v Schunk & Hoyt (W.D. Tex. 2025–26) both turned on whether on-stream / on-platform video could be authenticated. ProofSnap captures sit on the FRE 902(13)/(14) self-authentication side.
Math: $24.99 per video, billable as disbursement. One paralegal hour ($200–$700) buys 8–28 captures.
Preservation duty just triggered
Deadline: a preservation letter just landed. Spoliation sanctions start the moment litigation is anticipated. You have hours, not weeks.
The Social Media MDL (No. 3047, In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury, N.D. Cal., Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers) had 2,465 actions pending as of April 2026 against ByteDance, Google/YouTube, Meta, and Snap; preservation letters are arriving across the docket. Allied Concrete v Lester ($722K Facebook spoliation sanctions) is the cautionary precedent.
Math: Video SnapPack ×3 at $59.99 ($19.99/video) covers a typical preservation hold. No procurement, no PO.
Pre-publication legal review on a VOD purge clock
Deadline: Twitch deletes non-partner VODs in 7–14 days, partner VODs in 60. Kick is similar. Once the streamer trims or unlists, the broadcast is gone — and your publication's lawyer asks for the source.
For Bellingcat / Mediapart / Forbidden Stories-style work where pre-publication legal review will ask “can you authenticate this?” Capture during the broadcast or the day after — with audio, hash, and qualified timestamp — before the platform purges. The ZIP survives platform deletion and the libel review.
Math: Video SnapPack ×10 at $169.99 ($16.99/video) for sustained desk work. Less than 1 hour of a forensic contractor.
Not one of these three? See Social Media Evidence (defamation hub), DMCA & Copyright, or Take It Down Act — ProofSnap may still be the right tool, but a different page will speak to your situation more directly.
Six deadline-driven scenarios — mapped to the three personas
Each card names the clock and the painkiller. If your situation is not on a clock, this page is not the right pitch.
Defamation / harassment trial prep
Clock: motion in limine date
Opposing counsel will challenge every screenshot. Yakoob v Bennett, Mizkif v Schunk & Hoyt: authentication decided the cases. Capture under FRE 902(13)/(14) before the filing deadline.
DMCA counter-notice received
Clock: 10–14 days to file federal action (17 U.S.C. §512(g)(2)(C))
Once the platform forwards the counter-notice, file a federal-court action or the video goes back live. Lock the original post before it is restored and re-edited.
Preservation letter received
Clock: spoliation duty triggers at “reasonable anticipation”
Allied Concrete v Lester ($722K Facebook spoliation sanctions) is the precedent. Video SnapPack ×3 covers a typical preservation hold — corporate card, no procurement, no PO.
Social Media MDL 3047 preservation
Clock: ongoing — 2,465 actions pending April 2026 (N.D. Cal.)
If your company is named, suspected, or vendor/advertiser to a defendant, preservation runs continuously. Repeatable deterministic captures beat one expensive forensic vendor engagement.
Twitch / Kick VOD before purge
Clock: 7–14 days non-partner · 60 days partner · Kick variable
Capture during the broadcast or the day after, with audio, before the streamer trims, unlists, or the platform purges. The ZIP survives VOD + channel deletion.
Instagram Story / live broadcast
Clock: 24 h (Story) · live (IG & FB Live)
Stories vanish in 24 hours; live broadcasts vanish when the streamer ends them. For sustained desk work, Video SnapPack ×10 ($16.99/video) is the working unit.

What ProofSnap does not do
If any of these blocks your workflow, know it before you buy. Honesty up front beats a refund email.
30-min cap per video
Each Video SnapPack credit covers up to 30 minutes of recording. A 3-hour Twitch stream needs 6 credits. Plan packs accordingly — or split the broadcast at meaningful timestamps.
DRM-protected content
Netflix, Disney+, Spotify and other Widevine L1 / PlayReady streams capture as a black rectangle. Built for user-generated content (TikTok, Reels, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Facebook) — not paywalled studio content.
macOS audio
On macOS Chrome, only tab audio is captured (the audio playing inside the recorded tab). System audio from other apps is not. Windows and Linux capture both. For evidence purposes the tab audio is what matters.
DIY screen recording vs. Page Vault vs. ProofSnap
Page Vault Social Media On-Demand is $349 per capture in 2026; Page Vault Video On-Demand is $299. ProofSnap delivers a comparable forensic record at $24.99.

Holds up when opposing counsel cries “deepfake”
FRE 902(13)/(14) self-authentication is the floor — not the ceiling. Three cryptographic anchors plus the Provenance Certificate answer the four questions an adversarial expert will raise.
Q1 · alteration
“Was this file altered after capture?”
A single bit-flip in any file changes its SHA-256 hash. The signed manifest binds every file's hash; if anything is altered, manifest.sig verification fails — demonstrably, in front of the judge, with a public RSA-4096 key. Counter-evidence: Trust Verifier shows pass/fail in 5 seconds.
Q2 · timestamp
“Was this captured when you say it was?”
Two independent timestamps. manifest.json.ots anchors the manifest hash to a Bitcoin block (impossible to backdate). manifest.json.tsr carries an EU eIDAS qualified timestamp from Disig a.s. Burden shift: under Art. 41(2), the opposing party must disprove the timestamp, not you prove it.
Q3 · AI-generation
“Is this video AI-generated?”
The Provenance Certificate runs 8 integrity checks at capture time — device fingerprint, time consistency, DNS resolution path, TLS handshake, browser process integrity. AI generators don't produce captures with TLS handshakes to the source domain. Aligned with EU AI Act Art. 50 and proposed FRE 707. Exhibit: provenance_certificate.pdf.
Q4 · chain of custody
“Did you alter the chain of custody?”
chain_of_custody.json is generated at capture and signed into the manifest, built to ISO/IEC 27037:2012. Modifying it after capture invalidates the manifest signature. You don't testify: the file authenticates itself under FRE 902(13)/(14) — the recording person stays out of the witness chair.
Honest caveat: in matters above $1M or with high reputational stakes, retain a forensic expert as belt-and-braces. The forensic expert reviews the same ZIP — ProofSnap shortens, doesn't replace, that engagement.
Real cases. Real video. Real consequences.
Courts in 2026 are deciding video-evidence cases on the strength of authentication — not the dramatic content.
Recent video-evidence precedents
Yakoob v Bennett
First UK political-deepfake defamation settlement. “Substantial” damages paid by a TikTok-active solicitor who shared a manipulated video falsely depicting a teacher using racist language. Legal Cheek / Griffin Law
Mizkif v Schunk & Hoyt
Twitch streamer defamation lawsuit (W.D. Tex.); on-stream allegations are core evidence. Hoyt dismissed under FRCP 12(b)(6) Feb 2026; Schunk action ongoing. Kotaku / Dexerto
Brigitte Macron cyberbullying
Paris court convicts 10 (5 Jan 2026) for cyberbullying France's First Lady across social media (incl. a 4-hour YouTube video by lead defendant Delphine Jegousse); 6 months prison + 8 suspended sentences 4–8 months. Euronews / The Washington Post
Social Media MDL 3047 — 2,465 pending
In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction (N.D. Cal., Judge Gonzalez Rogers); defendants ByteDance, Google/YouTube, Meta, Snap. Preservation duty triggers at “reasonable anticipation”. JPML / TorHoerman
Two EU regulations live in August 2026: AI Act Art. 50 (deepfake disclosure, effective 2 Aug 2026) and E-Evidence Regulation 2023/1543 (cross-border preservation orders, effective 18 Aug 2026). If you file in Q3 or Q4 2026, your video evidence will be evaluated against the new floor — not the 2024 baseline.
Procurement, security & data residency
If your in-house counsel needs more than a Stripe receipt to onboard a new SaaS, here is the short answer.
Local processing & privilege
Video, screenshot, HTML and metadata are produced inside your Chrome / Edge profile on your machine. ProofSnap servers are touched only for OpenTimestamps anchoring (a SHA-256 hash, not the file) and for the eIDAS qualified timestamp request to Disig a.s. A privileged communication captured into a ZIP is no more exposed than the same file on your hard drive.
DPA / GDPR Art. 28
Data Processing Agreement available on request for EU/UK in-house counsel. Standard Contractual Clauses (2021/914) for international transfers where applicable. The minimal data ProofSnap processes is the file hash — no content, no metadata.
Team accounts & SSO
Company plan (subscription) supports member management with shared evidence archive and centralized billing. SSO and audit-log integrations are on the roadmap; for an immediate evaluation, email support@getproofsnap.com.

FAQ: deadlines, authentication & chain of custody
manifest.json.ots proves capture date; cannot be backdated without rewriting Bitcoin. (3) eIDAS qualified timestamp in manifest.json.tsr from a QTSP shifts the burden of disproof to the opposing party under Art. 41(2). (4) Provenance Certificate in provenance_certificate.pdf runs 8 integrity checks at capture time (device fingerprint, time consistency, DNS resolution path, TLS handshake, browser process integrity) that AI generators cannot reproduce. Aligned with EU AI Act Article 50 and proposed FRE 707 for AI-generated evidence.
