Step-by-step guide

Getting started with the ProofSnap Dashboard

To get started with the ProofSnap Dashboard in 2026, open app.getproofsnap.com in any browser, sign up with an email address and a password, confirm your email address, try up to 50 free test captures, then choose a plan and capture your first page as a sealed evidence ZIP. Setup takes about ten minutes, with nothing to install.

Every screen below is redrawn from the dashboard's own interface, so you know what to expect at each step. It also covers verifying, comparing and redacting captures, plus a step for developers, a step for lawyers and a section on resetting your password.

Step 1

Open the dashboard

Go to app.getproofsnap.com in any current browser. There is nothing to install: the dashboard is a web capture tool that runs in a browser tab, so you can capture a website as evidence without a browser extension. Because the captures run on ProofSnap's servers, your computer does not need to stay on while a capture finishes. The sign-in card is the first thing you see.

  1. 1Theme. Switches between dark mode, shown on this page, and light mode.
  2. 2Language. The dashboard is available in 29 languages. Pick yours before you sign up. The language of the evidence PDF is a separate choice you make for each capture.
  3. 3Need an account? Switches the card to sign-up mode. See the next step.

Step 2

Create your account

Click the Need an account? link. The card changes to Create your ProofSnap account. All you need is an email address and a password. As soon as you click Create account, you are signed in.

Already use the ProofSnap browser extension? The dashboard has its own account and its own plans, so your extension sign-in does not work here. You can sign up with the same email address.

  1. 1Email. Use an address you can check right away: the confirmation link goes there in the next step.
  2. 2Password. At least 10 characters. The eye icon shows what you typed.
  3. 3Create account. Creates the account and signs you in.
The same card in sign-up mode. The email address is an example.

Step 3

Confirm your email address

Right after sign-up, ProofSnap sends you a welcome email with a confirmation link. Until you open it, a banner at the top of the dashboard reminds you, and you cannot create captures, API keys or company invitations yet. Open the link, come back to the dashboard tab and confirm.

  1. 1Banner. Shown while the address is not confirmed.
  2. 2Send confirmation email. Sends the link again if the welcome email did not arrive. Check your spam folder too.
  3. 3I have confirmed it. Click it once you have opened the link. The banner disappears.

Step 4

Try it in sandbox mode

Before you choose a plan, your account runs in sandbox mode. You get 50 free test captures to see the whole flow and the evidence package before you pay. Each test capture carries the watermark TEST - NOT FOR LEGAL USE, so do not file it anywhere.

  1. 1Sandbox banner. Says that these captures are free and watermarked.
  2. 2Counter. How many of the 50 test captures you have used.
  3. 3eIDAS, locked. A qualified electronic timestamp needs a paid plan, so the box is disabled in sandbox mode. Redaction and Compare are paid tools as well.
New capture before you choose a plan. The counter is an example.

Step 5

Choose a plan

The Choose a plan card sits at the top of the dashboard until you choose a plan. It has three groups. Pick the group that matches what you do, then click Choose. Every plan can be changed or canceled later. Optional eIDAS timestamps cost $1.99 each on every plan.

  1. 1Monthly or Annual. Annual billing gives two months free. Developer is billed per capture either way.
  2. 2API plans. Developer at $1.49 per capture with no monthly fee, Startup at $99 a month with 200 captures, Growth at $499 a month with 2,000 captures. Each comes with API keys.
  3. 3Legal evidence workspace. Everything in the API plans plus matters, a tamper-evident chain of custody, sealing and litigation export. Solo at $49 a month with 50 captures, Company at $49 per seat per month with 100 captures per seat, with a minimum of two seats.
  4. 4Website archiving. Website Archive at $49 a month keeps your own website on record for regulators: up to 30 pages checked once a day, a new sealed copy each time the text changes.
The Choose a plan card, simplified: the real cards also show the approximate price in your local currency and a longer description.

Step 6

Pay in the new tab

The secure Stripe checkout opens in a new browser tab. Enter your card details there. The dashboard stays open in its own tab and waits: once Stripe confirms the payment, it switches to your new plan by itself. You do not need to sign in again.

  1. 1Starting secure checkout. The button shows a spinner for a few seconds while Stripe prepares the payment page.
  2. 2Stripe tab. Pay there. If you close it without paying, you are not charged, and you can pick a plan again whenever you are ready.
Stripe's checkout page, redrawn in neutral colors and simplified: the real page shows all card fields and Stripe's own design.

Step 7

Check your plan

Back in the dashboard, the message Your plan is active appears at the top. The Choose a plan card is gone, and the plan card below shows what you have. A short Get started card with three numbered steps appears below it until you make your first capture or create your first matter. You can dismiss it.

  1. 1Your plan is active. On an API plan, it offers Create your first API key right away. Step 13 explains keys.
  2. 2Plan. The plan name and a one-line summary of the price and the included captures. Plan details opens the full list: price, add-ons, limits and how long captures are kept.
  3. 3Usage. How many of your included captures you have used this month, and how many are left.
  4. 4Manage plan. Holds Change plan, Upgrade to team and Manage billing. Manage billing opens the Stripe billing portal for the payment method and cancellation.
After the payment, on the Startup plan. The usage numbers are an example.

Step 8

Make your first capture

Go to New capture. Paste the address of the page you want to preserve and click Capture. The capture runs on ProofSnap's servers, usually in 30 to 90 seconds, longer with a web archive (WARC) or an eIDAS timestamp. You can keep working in the meantime.

  1. 1URLs. One per line. Two or more run as a batch. A page behind a login or a paywall needs the ProofSnap extension instead.
  2. 2Case / matter reference and Private note. Both optional. The reference goes into the evidence package. The note is only for you, shown in Capture history and not sealed.
  3. 3eIDAS. Adds a qualified electronic timestamp under the eIDAS Regulation, from a Qualified Trust Service Provider on the EU Trusted List, at $1.99 per timestamp.
  4. 4Capture options. The evidence PDF language (29 languages), the network log (HAR), a full-page scroll, cookie banner and popup dismissal, a mobile device view and more. The defaults suit most pages.
  5. 5Capture. Starts the capture. Below the button, the new capture shows Processing, then a Download ZIP link.
New capture with the options panel closed. The URL and the reference are examples.

Step 9

Download the evidence package

Every capture lands in Capture history, the list of everything you have captured, certified or compared. When its status changes to Completed, download the ZIP. That ZIP is the sealed evidence package: the screenshot, the page HTML and text, the evidence PDF, the hashes, the RSA-signed manifest and the timestamps. Anyone can check it without ProofSnap (see How to verify an evidence package).

  1. 1Search and filters. Find a capture by its address, its capture ID or your private note, and filter by status, date and type.
  2. 2Status. Processing while the capture runs, then Completed or Failed. The list refreshes by itself.
  3. 3Proofs. Which proofs the package carries: BTC for OpenTimestamps (Bitcoin), eIDAS for the qualified timestamp, IA when a copy was also saved to the Internet Archive.
  4. 4Download ZIP. Saves the evidence package to your computer.
Capture history, simplified: the real table also has filters by date and type, sorting, selection and more row actions. A sandbox capture shows the type Test.

Step 10

Verify an evidence package

Want to check a package before you file it, or one somebody sent you? On a paid plan, open Tools, choose Verify a package and drop the ZIP. The check runs in your browser and the ZIP is not uploaded. Anyone, even without an account, can run the same checks in the free Trust Verifier or with the scripts in the package's verification/ folder.

  1. 1Verify a package. A tab under Tools, next to Compare captures and Certify a file.
  2. 2Drop zone. Drop the evidence ZIP or click to select it.
  3. 3Verdict. Shows Verified. Package intact. if nothing has changed since the package was sealed, or Verification failed. Package modified. if a file was altered.
  4. 4Checks. Each proof is checked on its own: the RSA-4096 manifest signature, the SHA-256 hash of every file, the OpenTimestamps (Bitcoin) proof, the eIDAS timestamp when the package has one, and the ProofSnap issuance ledger.
The Verify a package tool after a check, simplified. The file name and size are examples.

Step 11

Compare two captures

Captured the same page twice and need to show what changed? On a paid plan, open Tools, then Compare captures, pick the earlier capture as Before and the later one as After, and click Compare. The comparison is sealed as its own evidence package, with a report of the text, images and metadata that changed. It counts as one capture.

  1. 1Before and After. Search your captures by page address. Swap reverses the order. A note appears when the two captures are of different pages or were taken on different devices or with different settings.
  2. 2Comparison report. Choose the evidence PDF language and, optionally, an eIDAS timestamp, just as for a capture.
  3. 3Compare. Starts the comparison, which counts as one capture toward your monthly usage.
  4. 4Result. What changed on the page: the removed and added text, each with its position on the page (how far down it appears). The package appears in Capture history with the type Compare.
The Compare captures tool with a result, simplified. The pages, dates and changes are examples.

Step 12

Redact a copy of a capture

Need to share a capture without personal data or privileged content? On a paid plan, open Redaction, load the capture and mark what to remove. ProofSnap creates a redacted copy and seals it as a new evidence package. The original capture stays unchanged.

  1. 1Source capture. Search for a completed capture and click Load.
  2. 2Find personal data. Scans the captured page text for email addresses, national IDs, IBANs, phone numbers, IP addresses and card numbers. Check the values to remove. You can also add other text to remove by hand, and strip the site's IP addresses and DNS records.
  3. 3Screenshot areas. Drag across the screenshot to draw a black box, then choose whether the box also removes the underlying text from the page text or only covers the screenshot. Each item carries a reason: GDPR, Privileged, PII, FOIA exemption or Other.
  4. 4Apply redaction. Review the summary, then apply. The redacted copy appears in Capture history with the type Redacted.
The Redaction tool, simplified. The capture and the detected values are examples.

Step 13, for developers

Create an API key

Only needed if your own software calls the ProofSnap API. Open Developers, give the key a name if you like and click + New key. The key appears once, in a dialog: copy it into your secret store before you click Done. The Quick start box above the keys holds a ready-to-use curl command for your first API capture, and links to the API documentation.

  1. 1Quick start. A POST /v1/captures request with a copy button. Then poll the capture or pass a webhook URL.
  2. 2+ New key. Creates the key. Your keys are listed below with their name, environment, last-used date and status.
  3. 3Your new API key. Shown only once. Lost it? Revoke it and create a new one.
  4. 4Webhook signing secret. When it appears with a new key, it is also shown only once. You use it to verify that a webhook really comes from ProofSnap.
The Developers section with the new-key dialog open on top. The key values are masked here.

Step 14, for lawyers

Open a matter

On Solo or Company, the dashboard puts Matters first. A matter is the workspace for one case: its captures and a tamper-evident chain of custody of everything that happens to them. The Get started card walks you through it in three steps.

  1. 1+ New matter. Name it after the case. Client, case number, opposing party and jurisdiction are optional.
  2. 2Add to matter. In New capture, pick the matter, and the capture is filed there as soon as it completes. Earlier captures can be added from Capture history.
  3. 3Seal and export. When the case is complete, Seal matter locks it and timestamps the chain of custody on Bitcoin through OpenTimestamps. Export builds the case bundle.
Top: the first-run card on a Legal plan. Bottom: the New matter form and the matter picker in New capture. The matter name is an example.

If you need it

Set or reset your password

Forgot your password? On the sign-in card, type your email address first, then click Set or reset password. If an account exists for that address, ProofSnap emails you a link to set a new password. The new one needs at least 10 characters as well.

  1. 1Email. The address you signed up with.
  2. 2Set or reset password. Sends the link.
  3. 3Confirmation. Check your inbox and your spam folder.
