Two years to file. The listing changes in a week.
A consumer complaint has to be filed within two years of the cause of action. It is filed online through e-Jagriti and decided largely on the documents and affidavits that go in with it. The promise you are complaining about, the specification, the delivery commitment, the advertised claim, sits on a page the other side controls and edits.
Works on Chrome and Edge. From $4.99 (about ₹480) as a one-off, or a 7-day trial that requires a payment card.

Illustrative example. Fictional account, not a real post.
In India, a consumer complaint is filed on e-Jagriti, which replaced e-Daakhil on 1 January 2025, within two years of the cause of action under section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. The listing is usually edited before the hearing, so ProofSnap seals the listing and its terms on the day you buy.
Under section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, a District, State or National Commission shall not admit a complaint unless it is filed within two years from the date on which the cause of action arose. A complaint may still be entertained after that period if the complainant satisfies the Commission that there was sufficient cause for the delay, and the Commission records its reasons for condoning it, but that is an application you have to win first. Complaints are filed online through e-Jagriti, the unified portal that absorbed e-Daakhil on 1 January 2025, and jurisdiction follows the value of the claim: the District Commission up to fifty lakh rupees, the State Commission from fifty lakh to two crore, the National Commission above that. The proceedings run on written complaints, affidavits and documents, with virtual hearings available, so the file you lodge is close to the whole case. What decides most consumer matters is ordinary and it is all online: the listing with the specification, the advertised claim, the delivery commitment, the warranty text, the chat with the seller. All of it is edited by the other side. Under section 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam an electronic record needs a certificate stating its hash value, and ProofSnap produces that hash at the moment of capture, alongside the full page, the saved source, the URL, the capture time in UTC and an RSA-4096 signature. From $4.99 (about ₹480) as a one-off.

Why the file decides it
The promise is edited out before the hearing
A consumer dispute is a dispute about what was promised, and the promise lives on a page the seller can rewrite.
The listing is edited or delisted
The specification, the warranty line, the delivery commitment and the advertised claim are all editable, and they are edited precisely when they stop being true. The version you relied on is the one that matters and the one most likely to be gone.
The commitment is in the chat, not the invoice
What was actually agreed about replacement, installation, timelines or a refund is usually in a support chat or a message thread. Chats are closed, archived and deleted, and support transcripts are rarely handed over on request.
A screenshot invites the obvious answer
A cropped image with no URL, no capture time and no hash is exactly the document the opposing side will say was made up or edited. Section 63 asks for a hash value in the certificate, and a phone screenshot has none to give.
How the process is structured
Knowing the mechanics tells you when your evidence has to exist, which is well before you decide to complain.
Two years from the cause of action
Section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 bars admission of a complaint filed more than two years after the cause of action arose. Condonation is possible where sufficient cause is shown and the Commission records its reasons, but it is a separate hurdle.
Jurisdiction follows the value
The District Commission hears claims up to fifty lakh rupees, the State Commission from fifty lakh to two crore, and the National Commission above two crore. The value of the goods or services paid for, together with the compensation claimed, decides where the complaint goes.
Filed online, decided on the file
Complaints are filed through the e-Jagriti portal and hearings are commonly virtual. The complaint, the affidavit and the documents carry the case, and a defective affidavit is one of the more common reasons for a complaint stalling at admission.
The record still needs a certificate
An electronic record produced without the original device needs a section 63 certificate stating the hash value of the record. That applies to a screenshot of a listing exactly as it applies to a bank statement.
Capture on the day you buy, not the day it goes wrong
The most common mistake is capturing the listing when the dispute starts. By then the specification has been corrected, the warranty line has been removed and the delivery promise has been softened, and you are arguing about what the page used to say. Capture the listing and the terms on the day you pay, and a complaint eighteen months later is a matter of attaching a file rather than reconstructing the page from memory.
How do I capture a page in 41 seconds?
No forensic training required. The proof is in the package, not in your account of how careful you were.
Capture the listing, the terms and the chat
Open the product page, the terms, the advertisement and the support conversation in Chrome or Edge and capture each from the side panel. Start with the listing, because that is what gets edited.
The package seals itself
Every file receives an SHA-256 hash, the manifest is signed with an RSA-4096 key, and the manifest hash is anchored to Bitcoin. The capture time is recorded in UTC, independent of your device clock.
File on e-Jagriti with the package attached
Lodge the complaint within two years, attach the packages as annexures in date order, and complete the section 63 certificate using the hash and particulars from the evidence report.
What is in the evidence package?
Between 11 and 15 files depending on your plan, delivered as one ZIP that anyone can check without installing anything.
Full-page screenshot
The whole page, not just the visible window, stitched and hashed.
Saved page source
The document as rendered at capture time, including the head, meta tags and structured data.
Extracted page text
Searchable plain text, so a quote can be found and cited without retyping.
Technical metadata
URL, page title, HTTP response headers, browser, operating system and the capture time in UTC.
Signed manifest
SHA-256 for every file, signed with an RSA-4096 key whose public key ships in the package.
Blockchain timestamp
The manifest hash anchored to Bitcoin via OpenTimestamps, so the capture time cannot be backdated.
Chain of custody and forensic log
A record of what happened during the capture, in the order it happened.
Evidence report as PDF
A readable summary you can attach to an application, a notice or a report.
Verification instructions
Written steps plus scripts, so the other side can re-check the hashes offline.
Anyone can verify it, including the other side. Drop the ZIP onto the public Trust Verifier, and the hashes, the signature and the timestamp are checked in the browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing depends on ProofSnap still existing.

See the capture serviceProofSnap is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. India has no equivalent of an EU qualified timestamp, so the eIDAS option carries no presumption before an Indian court and is offered on Enterprise plans for cross-border matters. What section 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam asks for is the hash value of the record, which every package contains.
Official sources
Every figure and deadline on this page comes from the following primary sources. Check them yourself rather than taking our word for it.
- Section 69, Consumer Protection Act 2019 the two-year limitation period and condonation of delay.
- e-Jagriti the official portal for filing before the consumer commissions, which replaced e-Daakhil on 1 January 2025.
- National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission jurisdiction, procedure and published orders.
- Section 63, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 the certificate requirement for electronic records.
Number your annexures and put the listing you relied on next to the listing as it stands today. A Commission reading a tidy, dated file decides on the merits. A Commission reading undated screenshots decides on whatever else is in front of it.
